“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:2 (KJV)
The one-hundredth Psalm reminds us that the entire Earth should “Shout for joy to the Lord.” – (Verse 1 – NIV).
As God’s children, we are blessed beyond measure, but sometimes, as busy Christians living in a demanding world, we are slow to count our gifts and even slower to give thanks to the Giver. Our blessings include life and health, family and friends, freedom and possessions. The gifts we receive from God are multiplied when we share them. May we always give thanks to God for His blessings and demonstrate love by sharing our gratitude and gifts with others.
Christ is sweet. He is the source, substance, centre, and circumstance of all true and lasting gladness. Joy is a by-product, not of happy circumstances, education, or talent, but of a healthy relationship with God and a determination to love Him no matter what. God knows everything and can manage everything. He loves us. Surely, this is enough for a fullness of joy that is beyond words.
The Bible gives us some references and causes of celebration:
- “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4 – NIV)
- “And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord…” (2 Samuel 6:5 – ESV)
- “…but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.” (Proverbs 15:15 – NIV)
- “At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem, they sent for the Levites wherever they lived and brought them to Jerusalem to celebrate the joyous dedication with thanksgiving and singing…” (Nehemiah 12:27 – HCSB)
The 118th Psalm reminds us that, “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Verse 24 – KJV). May we celebrate this day and the One who created it. Every day should be a cause for celebration. By celebrating the gift of life, you protect your heart from the danger of pessimism, hopelessness, and bitterness.
Today, make a decision to celebrate life and testify of God’s goodness.
Prayer
Dear Lord, help us remember that every day is a cause for celebration. Today, we will try our best to keep joy in our hearts. We will celebrate the life You have given us here on Earth and the eternal life that will be ours in heaven. Amen.
